Lompoc Valley Medical Center is Hiring a Clinical Informatics Analyst Near Lompoc, CA

Salary Range: $29.52 - $40.72

Pay rates are determined based on experience and internal equity.

Position Summary:

  • Under the general supervision of the Clinical Informatics Specialist, support the implementation and maintenance of the Electronic Medical Record (EMR) System.
  • The Clinical Informatics Analyst shall supervise and provide oversight to clinical staff and others assigned to the implementation and maintenance of the EMR.
  • Clinical Informatics Analyst shall have a solid understanding of the acute care hospital environment, workflow, documentation, electronic orders, and results, and how LVMC data driven systems support the quality of care.
  • Follow-through on issues and improvements in the EMR system, interfaces between EMR and other clinical systems, and related process flows.
  • Performs as a coordinator of clinician systems and how they are supported by the Information Systems Department exercising opportunities to improve quality, workflow, and the overall health care processes.
  • In a cooperative manner, lead the design of electronic orders, results, documentation, clinical data management and system workflow designs with leadership, physicians, and clinical staff.

Position Duties/Responsibility:

  • Supports the Information Systems and Clinical Informatics Department from 7:00 AM to 4:30 PM weekdays, with occasional after-hours and weekend support.
  • In cooperation with LVMC contracted EMR and clinical application vendors, individual will actively participate in system upgrades, problem determination, system design, program testing, and performing quality control checks on programs and applications. This individual must be able and willing to communicate and provide assistance to all hospital associates as it relates to the clinical applications.
  • Train new employees and physicians on the operational aspects of the EMR and associated systems, as it pertains to the EMR.
  • Oversee the creation and/or updating of training documentation and manuals.
  • Function proficiently in common desktop applications such as Word, Excel, and Outlook.
  • Individual must be flexible in attitude, able to manage daily changing priorities, able to multi-task many projects, support challenging users (irate, rude, poor communicators), function in a team environment, and operate with little supervision.
  • Participates in the development, revision, and enforcement of policies and procedures related to areas of responsibility. Assist user departments in developing and integrating related procedures for their areas.
  • Routinely audit EMR documentation for accurate, timely, complete, and appropriate entries. Report findings and recommendations to department managers and Clinical Informatics Manager.
  • Responsible for meeting accreditation requirements in training, education, and use of LVMC Clinical applications.
  • Function as a leader that consults with user personnel to explore information system needs and to identify and define areas of improvement. This individual will relate user needs and concerns to appropriate Information System personnel for further action and/or resolution.
  • Assist and define Information Systems and Clinical Informatics Policies and Procedures annually.
  • Keeps confidential information and data inaccessible to unauthorized personnel.
  • Maintain key clinical application system files in accordance with hospital policy.
  • Interact with all associates, guests, and physicians in a courteous, respectful, and friendly manner.

Essential Functions:

  • The ability to meet all functions noted in Job Description

  • Work as a team lead with positive personal interactions with staff, physicians, patients/residents and visitors.

Position Qualifications:

Education:

  • High School graduate, GED
  • Level of knowledge equivalent to that ordinarily acquired through the completion of an associate degree in a clinical field, or…
  • Two years or more active and progressive experience in Medical Informatics or Information Systems in a clinical setting with prior EMR implementation experience, or…

Experience:

  • Five years or more active and progressive experience in an Information Systems healthcare setting.
  • A background in computers and applications that directly support Hospital Information Systems and hospital staff management, providing a successful link between Information Systems and the patient caregivers.
  • Project management skills necessary to coordinate multi-phase, multi-disciplined projects working with all levels of Hospital staff.
  • Training and Education skills necessary to teach Clinical System concepts and related courses in clinical application usage.
  • Familiar with the accreditation survey process and the components within the regulations associated with Information Management. 
  • Project coordination skills necessary to coordinate multi-phase, multi-disciplined projects working with all levels of hospital staff.

Certifications:

  • Clinical Informatics or Certified Nursing Assistant preferred.

Skills/Ability:

  • Ability to follow through all tasks assigned.
  • Ability to follow directions and accomplish tasks assigned in a timely manner.
  • Ability to multi-task, supporting several clients' needs in a timely manner.
  • Provide timely feedback to the Clinical Informatics Manager on the status of assigned tasks and projects.
  • Express systems and applications in lay terminology and perform liaison responsibilities, i.e., elicit user problems and needs.
  • The ability to communicate effectively, verbally and in writing, with all levels of hospital personnel on a one-on-one and group basis, using appropriate vocabulary, grammar, and word usage.
  • Finger dexterity, motor coordination, hand-to-eye coordination, color distinction, visual acuity, talking, sitting, handling, lifting, pushing, hearing, balancing, competitive motions, stooping, bending, carrying, kneeling, clerical perception.
  • The use of independent judgment and discretion.
  • The ability to protect confidential information.
  • Analytical ability to participate in the development of policies and procedures as they relate to the medically trained staff members.
  • Determine user needs from process descriptions.
  • Analytical skills that demonstrate an elevated level of problem identification, evaluation, and conflict resolution capability.
